THE SHIELD’s Michael Chiklis joins GOTHAM in new role!

If you thought Gotham was tough before, just wait for Season 2! Veteran tough guy actor Michael Chiklis has joined the cast of the hit Fox television show in an original role. He’ll play Captain Nathaniel Barnes, who tears into the Gotham City Police Department determined the rid the organization of its bad seeds.

According to the official description, Barnes will be one intense mutha:

He is a law and order zealot; unafraid of making enemies – on either side of the law. For Gordon (Ben McKenzie), Barnes is a hero and a mentor, someone with whom he can share the burden of heroism. Captain Barnes proves himself to be a strong ally to Gordon… but one day he will make an equally powerful enemy.”

So we’ve also got an eventual enemy in the works, it seems! As he’s a series regular, we imagine the transition will be a slow one. Still, it will be nice to see a future baddie who’s best known for his deep personal relationship with Detective Gordon, not just Bruce Wayne.

Chiklis, best known for The Shield and the original Fantastic Four films, bro’d out about the casting with Ben McKenzie over Twitter:

Gotham Season 2 is set to premiere on September 21, 2015.
