Grant Gustin tells fans that “Flashpoint” is coming to THE FLASH!

Many fans guessed it was the case after the shocker of The Flash‘s Season 2 finale, but now it’s official: The hit CW show will be utilizing DC Comics “Flashpoint” storyline for Season 3!

This announcement came about via a funny exchange between The Flash himself, Grant Gustin, and DC television head honcho Greg Berlanti:

For those for you who aren’t familiar with “Flashpoint,” the plot line is the basis for DC’s rebooted The New 52 comics line in which the universe is turned on its head after Barry Allen saves his mother. In the altered reality of the comics, Barry is powerless and married to Patty Spivot, Captain Cold is Central City’s hero, and Barry gets involved in a complicated history between Thomas and Martha Wayne– aka Batman and The Joker, following the death of their son Bruce.

However, Grant was also quick to confirm that this version of “Flashpoint” isn’t simply a reiteration of the comics:

It’s hard to know just how much of the comics will make their way into Season 3 given that they’ll only be allowed the use of certain specific characters and will likely want to keep things focuses on Barry, but this definitely opens up the door for Supergirl existing in the same reality as the other DC shows on The CW, the return of Harrison Wells and Jesse Quick, Wally West or Jesse as The Flash, and the introduction of new characters!

The big question is: Will it all last or will Barry simply be visiting the “Flashpoint” universe for an episode or two before righting his rash decisions and getting back to the life he once knew?

The Flash returns to The CW for Season 3 beginning Tuesday, October 4, 2016.
