[GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 SPOILERS] One of the big mysteries left at the end of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy was the identity of Peter Quill aka Star-Lord’s father. While the film leaves a few clues, director James Gunn has clarified one point — he isn’t the same character as in the comic books. When asked about Star-Lord’s father, James Gunn told Empire,
It’s definitely not the character who it is in the comics, I’ll say that much.
There have been a lot of documents passed around about who Peter Quill’s father is between a select two or three of us. That’s been part of the plan since the beginning, that’s something I had to work out before we shot the screenplay. We wanted to make sure Yondu’s place in everything made sense and it does, so it’s all very specific stuff.
The big tease in that quote seems to be the phrase ‘Yondu’s place’. We’ve known for a while that Yondu will have a significant role in the sequel and Gunn has said that the only three people other than himself who know who Star-Lord’s father is are Marvel Studios Head Honcho Kevin Feige, Yondu actor Michael Rooker, and Gunn’s brother Sean Gunn.
Who do you think Star-Lord’s father is? Is it a character we’ve already met (such as Yondu)? Or is it someone else entirely? Leave your guesses in the comments below!
