Another HAMILTON Star Joins Disney’s MOANA

Phillipa Soo will bring her theatrical prowess to Disney’s MOANA!

You may already know that Lin-Manuel Miranda of Hamilton fame is writing the music for Disney’s upcoming South Pacific inspired film Moana, but he’s not the only cast member getting in on the musical adventure!

Phillipa Soo, who plays Hamilton’s wife Eliza Schuyler in the Broadway sensation, will play a villager on Moana’s home island of Motunui whose name has yet to be released. Disney remains mum on how big the role is or how important it will be to the story.

Soo is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical at this year’s Tony Awards. She’s previously had roles on screen NBC’s Smash and TV movie Dangerous Liaisons and made a name for herself in the off-Broadway play Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812.

Moana, starring newcomer Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson, hits theaters on November 23, 2016.

From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes Moana, a sweeping, CG-animated adventure about a spirited teenager who sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and fulfill her ancestors’ unfinished quest. During her journey, she meets the once-mighty demi-god Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), and together, they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous fiery creatures and impossible odds.
