A HARRY POTTER themed augmented reality game will be coming our way in 2018!
Remember all that buzz about a possible “Harry Potter Go” app last year? Well turns out we will be getting our game after all, as it was announced today that Niantic, the company behind “Pokemon Go,” will be adapting the Harry Potter world into an augmented reality mobile game.
The game will be adapted with Warner Bros. and their new Portkey Games label, which was also announced today, and will be called “Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.” We don’t know much about the game yet, but if it is like “Pokemon Go” then it will probably allow players to participate in J.K. Rowling‘s Wizarding World and immerse themselves in the magic overlaid on top on real world through their phones.
You can check out the official website for the game here. According to Niantic, the game will “reveal that magic is all around us,” letting players wander different neighbourhoods, go on adventures, cast spells, meet beloved characters, and more.
In a statement about the game, John Hanke, founder and CEO of Niantic, had this to say:
“The beloved Harry Potter stories have captured imaginations worldwide for more than 20 years and soon we’ll turn the fantasy into augmented reality, allowing fans and their friends to become wizards and witches.”
David Haddad, president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, added that “with this game, we are allowing the passionate, worldwide fan base to experience J.K. Rowling’s deeply powerful and imaginative universe in a new, truly immersive way.”
“Harry Potter: Wizards Unite” is expected to be released in 2018.
