HIS DARK MATERIALS nabs Season 2 and a bigger production scale!

The upcoming His Dark Materials miniseries is growing in leaps and bounds!

The show is adapted from Philip Pullman‘s series of the same name, which follow young Lyra Belacqua, a girl from an alternate dimension version of London, as she discovers friendship, conspiracies, a strange truth-telling device, different and exciting societies within her world, and a rare phenomenon called Dust.

HBO has come in board to co-produce the massive BBC miniseries, which will star Dafne Keen as Lyra Belacqua, James McAvoy as Lord Asriel, Ruth Wilson as Mrs. Coulter, and Lin-Manuel Miranda as Lee Scoresby, among others.

According to Deadline, HBO’s involvement comes on the heels of a Season 2 order, which will expand the show from eight to sixteen episodes.

The structure of the show remains unknown, so these two seasons could represent Book 1 and Book 2 in the series or they could be a mishmash of all three books, completing the story by the Season 2 finale.

His Dark Materials has not started filming and does not have a release date quite yet.
