Meet the fifth GAME OF THRONES side project writer, who’s already involved in the world of Westeros!

HBO is taking no chances when it comes to crafting the perfect Game of Thrones prequel series, so much so that they have a whopping five potential spinoffs in development.

Previously, the network announced the writing teams behind four of the projects. Shortly thereafter, George R.R. Martin spilled the beans about a fifth project. While the screenwriter’s deal was still underway, he had this to say about the mystery writer:

HBO announced the names of the first four, and will no doubt announce the fifth as well, once his deal has closed. He’s a really terrific addition, however, a great guy and a fine writer, and aside from me and maybe Elio and Linda, I don’t know anyone who knows and loves Westeros as well as he does.

Today, EW exclusively revealed that the mystery writer behind the fifth project is Bryan Cogman, the third most prolific writer on Game Of Thrones.

Cogman has had a hand in writing a number of popular episodes on the show, including Tyrion Lannister’s trail in Season 4 and more recently, Season 7’s “Stormborn”.

HBO is still remaining mum on what the various in-world projects are about, but all of them are prequels focused on new characters within the same world. It’s likely that only one of the five will actually make it to the screen, but with so many possibilities, perhaps we’ll see more!
