Fox 2000 will adapt Smoke Signals’ screen writer Sherman Alexie’s YA best-seller, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. Hugh Jackman (X-Men) is set to play a supporting role and will also function in a producing capacity.
The book is about Junior, a teenage budding cartoonist growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation. Wanting to take is future into his own hands, he leaves his troubled school on the reservation to attend an all-white farm town high school where the only other Indian is the school mascot.
Book author Sherman Alexie will pen the screenplay with Temple Hill’s Wyck Godfrey and Isaac Klausner along with Donners’ Company’s Lauren Shuler Donner and Jack Leslie producing.
