‘Hunger Games’ spoof underway

This was inevitable.  At some point in the not so distant future The Starving Games will be coming to a theater near you.  Yes, The Starving Games.  This spoof of The Hunger Games is being brought to you by the same people behind The Scary Movie franchise.  See details from Variety below.

It was only a matter of time before someone sent up the year’s biggest runaway hits.

Spoof auteurs Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer have come onboard to write and direct “The Starving Games,” with K5 selling its international rights at Cannes.

Peter Safran will produce through his Safran Co. shingle.

Though “The Hunger Games” will be front and center for many of the jokes, other pics to be pilloried include “The Avengers,” “Sherlock Holmes” and the finale of the “Harry Potter” franchise. Wild Bunch has already snapped up the German rights, and Falcon has taken the Middle East.

Friedberg and Seltzer, both repped by Safran, have made a living making fun of other people’s work starting with “Scary Movie,” for which Friedberg and Seltzer served as writers and Safran was an exec producer.

Since then the duo have co-written and co-directed “Vampires Suck,” “Date Movie,” “Meet the Spartans” and “Disaster Movie,” which have collectively grossed more than $350 million worldwide
