THE HUNGER GAMES Star To Guest Judge on FACE OFF

Josh Hutcherson, who plays Peeta Mellark in The Hunger Games movies, has signed on to be a guest judge on Face Off, the popular prosthetics make-up reality competition on The Syfy Channel.

In the upcoming eighth season’s third episode — titled “Let the Games Begin” — Hutcherson will join The Hunger Games makeup department head Ve Neill and her fellow judges (Glenn Hetrick and Neville Page) to critique the contestants’ cinema-inspired predator creature designs.

If you haven’t seen the show, it’s certainly one of the shows that I don’t mind watching, despite it being a “reality” show.  The amazingly talented makeup artists are challenged weekly with a specific task, one that tests their abilities in concept, design, sculpting, painting, molding, and end result.  The artists go through about 20 hours of work within a 3-day period, and are judged on the final day.  One artist is usually eliminated per week until the final week, when three artists remain for the final competition and one winner is established.

In the first season of Face Off, Conor McCullagh, won the competition and afterwards assisted Face Off judge Ve Neill in some makeup work on The Hunger Games set.  A couple of notable effects was his work on Josh Hutcherson’s arm for the tree camoflauge that was shown in the training scene as well as the Josh Huthcerson’s character hiding in the rocks.  He is now key special effects makeup artist on the NBC series, Constantine.

Ve Neill is one of the judges on the show as well as the makeup department head for all four movies of The Hunger Games franchise.  It would seem fitting that Josh would now partake as a guest judge on the show, which will air on January 27th at 9pm.

Other notable figures that have guest judged are actor/director/writer Kevin Smith (Clerks), , director/producer/writer Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil franchise), and producer/screenwriter Gale Anne Hurd (The Walking Dead).
