I Wear My Mockingjay Proud

“The bird, the pin, the song, the berries, the watch, the cracker, the dress that burst into flames. I am the mockingjay. The one that survived despite the Capitol’s plans. The symbol of the rebellion.”
Katniss Everdeen – Catching Fire

Prior to the release of The Hunger Games in theaters I managed to get my hands on a Mockingjay necklace from Neca. I have worn it every day since then, and I wear it proudly. I wear it for many reason; to show my love and support for our Mockingjay, to separate myself from the majority of people that call themselves “fans” of the books and the movie, yet still don’t grasp the messages of the trilogy, and most importantly, it draws me closer to the work that Suzanne Collins blessed us with, making me feel that much more a part of this epic fandom. People that see me on a regular basis ask me why I wear this “silly” necklace, and I tell them that the Mockingjay symbolizes freedom and represents rebellion against such things as the Capitol and I will stand by that cause, always. We are the Mockingjay’s voice to our world, so wear yours proudly.

If you don’t have your own Mockingjay pin or necklace, Amazon has some great deals going on!
