Star Trek Beyond is just around the corner, and actor Idris Elba explains his villainous character, Krall, in this latest featurette.
If that angry voice you’ve heard in some of the Star Trek Beyond trailers and TV spots sounds familiar, then you’ve probably seen actor Idris Elba on screen or TV before. It’s not hard to recognize the deep, smooth voice that sounds just as good as he looks. Unfortunately, you won’t be seeing him as he is in real life in Star Trek Beyond, but you’ll definitely be hearing him.
Elba plays Krall, the main antagonist in the film, and in the latest featurette, the actor gives some insight to the “complex” villain, as do director Justin Lin, and screenwriter/actor Simon Pegg.
Idris Elba also spoke with Entertainment Weekly about Krall, and said this:
“What’s interesting about him is that he has a real beef with what the Enterprise stands for. Krall’s a character who’s deeply steeped in hatred — in my opinion, a well-earned hatred — for the Federation. It felt quite political. There’s a relatability to what’s happening in our world. Not everybody’s happy with what everybody calls the good guys.”
Also released today was the IMAX poster for Star Trek Beyond, which simply looks awesomely appropriate for the IMAX showing of the movie.
Star Trek Beyond arrives in theaters on Friday, July 22nd, with the red carpet premiere happening on July 20th at San Diego Comic-Con.
