J.K. Rowling has revealed the secret about Snape she told Alan Rickman
Back in 2010, during an interview with RTE, Alan Rickman said that J.K. Rowling had given him a special insight into his Harry Potter character, the morally grey Severus Snape.
“She gave me one little piece of information, which I always said I would never share with anybody and never have, and never will. It wasn’t a plot point, or crucial in any tangible way, but it was crucial to me as a piece of information that made me travel down that road rather than that one or that one or that one.”
After Rickman’s tragic death, a fan asked Rowling on Twitter what this secret was, and she finally revealed the insight she had given Rickman years ago. Rowling wrote that she “Told Alan what lies behind the word ‘always’.”

Fans of Harry Potter will know what this word holds, and the significance of it for Snape’s character. ‘Always’ holds the truth behind Snape’s actions, and so it is only fitting that Rickman would have known this, as he portrayed Snape so wonderfully.
