HARRY POTTER Play Scribe To Adapt HIS DARK MATERIALS Series

Celebrated writer Jack Thorne will bring HIS DARK MATERIALS to the screen!

English screenwriter and playwright Jack Thorne is entering the fantastical world of His Dark Materials!

The writer, who is perhaps most famously known in fandom for his continued work on the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play, was nominated for an historic three BAFTA awards in writing categories this year and is quickly becoming one of the best-known writers in the UK. With so much good work under his belt, it’s no wonder he was sought after to help bring Lyra’s Oxford to life!

Thorne shared his joy at joining the project in a recent statement:
“It is such an honor and a privilege to be given this opportunity to delve into Philip Pullman’s world. The His Dark Materials trilogy are vast and glorious books full of beautiful characters and I’m going to work as hard as I can to try and do justice to them.”

It seems series author and executive producer Philip Pullman is fully on board with the decision, stating: “Jack is a writer of formidable energy and range, and I’ve greatly enjoyed talking to him and learning about his plans for bringing His Dark Materials to the screen.”

The His Dark Materials series has sold over 17.5 million copies, but a 2007 adaptation that cut out controversial themes failed to woo audiences. The television series hopes to give book lovers a more authentic journey.

A release date for the series has not been announced.
