Jade Hassouné talks filming SHADOWHUNTERS and how he relates to Meliorn in a new interview with R&W Entertainment. R&W has also released an exclusive new Meliorn image.
Hassouné was added as a recurring role on Shadowhunters this summer. He explained his excited reaction to finding out he was cast as Meliorn, a part that he felt strongly for when going through the audition process.
I laughed so much, and I jumped around my house, screaming and when things calmed down, I got a rush of emotion and tears. It just feels so good. This is one of my dream roles. I told my friends about this role. This is exactly what I’ve always wanted to play.
Meliorn is a character Hassouné describes as “connected to nature and connected to self.” He speaks to how much he enjoys the role, as well as how he finds commonality between himself and his character.
I have my hair that you’ll see in the show, so I’ve got the hair. I was really happy about it because I got to keep my long hair, which sometimes people ask you to cut it off for certain roles and I’ve said no to parts before because of it. Other aspects that I relate to Meliorn is that he loves. The love aspect of him, I relate to. I think I’m a lover and I think he is as well. In the show, you will see that aspect of him more than in the books.
Additionally, Hassouné has already found great connections with the Shadowhunters cast.
There was so many things that I loved filming. The first scene I shot was with Emeraude [Toubia], it was a lot of fun, and it’s a little bit of a hot scene so that was a fun thing to shoot. I think that we established a good relationship at the beginning, which was very nice. There are some cool scenes coming up as well. Imagine a different direction, and all your Disney dreams coming true. There are lots of cool magic scenes coming up.
The actor also explains that he hadn’t anticipated ever being a part of the Shadow World. As he’s currently reading the series, City Of Glass is his favorite — the book when “the story really opens up.” It’s no surprise that Hassouné, who describes himself as a “fanboy,” is thrilled to see the fan involvement and excitement around the Shadowhunters series.
Already, there’s so so fans involved, present and excited. I’ve never experienced anything like that before with a project. Normally, you always wait until it airs but now there’s so much boiling up to it. I’m super excited for everyone to see the incredible cast work, the incredible producers work, the editors work and everybody’s work. There’s so much involvement in making it happen. (…) I’d love for it to continue for many seasons and for us to recreate the story as close to the books as possible.
At the end of the interview, R&W dropped an exclusive Meliorn photo. Check it out below!
