SPIDER-MAN’s next big villain will reportedly be played by Jake Gyllenhaal!
After missing out on a chance to play Peter Parker back in the day, Jake Gyllenhaal is in final negotiations to play a new villain in the upcoming sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming!
Gyllenhaal is reportedly ironing out a deal to play Quentin Beck aka Mysterio, a special effects guru turned villain who uses his abilities to wreak havoc on Peter’s spidey senses as he causes chaos. He’s also one of the members of the Sinister Six, which means the introduction of the character could be a setup for bigger things to come.
As noted by THR, Gyllenhaal was considered to replace Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man 2 after Maguire injuried his back. Ultimately, Maguire recovered and there was no need for a replacement.
It’s been rumored for quite some time that the actor would be the next Batman, particularly in Matt Reeves’s upcoming solo movie The Batman, but it seems like the rumors don’t hold any weight.
The unnamed Spider-man sequel is due out on July 5, 2019.
