James Gunn Confirms Where GUARDIANS 3 Falls In The MCU Timeline

Writer/director James Gunn’s small announcement has big implications on the third GUARDIANS film!

Warning: Spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War.

Following the events of Avengers: Infinity War, there seems to be two distinct parts of the MCU timeline: The events leading up to the wild Infinity War and everything that will follow.

The Guardians of the Galaxy were decimated in the latest Marvel release: Gamora was killed by Thanos in order to gain the Soul Stone, and Peter, Drax, Mantis, and Groot were all disintegrated by the finger snap, leaving Rocket and Nebula as the only remaining members.

However, it looks like the 2019 Infinity War sequel will be kinder to the group, as director James Gunn has confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 takes place after the storyline plays out.

It will be after.

While there are possible Guardians alternates available for use, as seen in the post-credits scene in Guardians 2 featuring Stakar and Aleta Ogord, Charlie-27, Martinex, Mainframe, and Krugarr. Still, the feels likely that we’ll see the original gang back with the exception of Gamora.

We’ll find out for sure when Guardians 3 hits theaters. An exact release date has not been announced.
