In a horrific tragedy last month, 15-year-old Cassidy Stay lost her mother, father, and four siblings in a deadly shooting. At their memorial service, she quoted an Albus Dumbledore line from HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN: “Happiness can be found even in darkest of times, if one remembers to turn on the light.”
After a campaign began to have Cassidy, a massive HARRY POTTER fan, meet J.K. Rowling, the author responded by sending her a few precious gifts: A wand, an acceptance letter and school supply list for Hogwarts, a signed copy of PRISONER OF AZKABAN, and a handwritten letter from Albus Dumbledore written out in purple ink. Rowling insists that the contents of the letter remain private.
While there’s no word yet on whether Rowling and Stay will meet, this action in itself makes us enormously proud to be HARRY POTTER fans!
