HBO and BBC have jointly announced plans to adapt JK Rowling’s much more mature follow-up to the HARRY POTTER series, THE CASUAL VACANCY, into a three-hour miniseries event that will film this summer in south London.

THE CASUAL VACANCY tells the story of the residents of Pagford, a quintessentially British town, as their politics, relationships, and families are put to the test in the fallout of a local politician’s death and the election set to replace him.

Rowling will serve as an executive producer on the project, which was adapted by EASTENDERS’ Sarah Phelps and will be directed by Jonny Campbell.
