John Green and Paper Towns Cast Spill The Beans on Surprise Cameo

We all know John Green has a cameo in PAPER TOWNS, but guess who else is on board?!

WARNING: DON’T READ THIS POST UNLESS YOU’RE READY FOR A PAPER TOWNS MOVIE SPOILER THAT WILL DEFINITELY HAVE FANS REACTING!

After missing out in The Fault In Our Stars, author John Green finally got a cameo in Paper Towns, which is out this Friday. Mind you, it’s reportedly so small that his own wife didn’t realize he was in there. But it turns out John Green isn’t the only person we Nerdfighters love who will be making a cameo!

John and the Paper Towns cast recently talked about another great cameo we can expect, one with lines, even!

Ansel Elgort, best known as Augustus Waters from The Fault In Our Stars, has a small but hilarious exchange with Lacey (Halston Sage) as a gas station cashier during a timed pit stop on the journey to find Margo.

Director Jake Schreier talked with Variety about how the cameo came to be:

“The gas station scene is one of my favorite scenes in the book, and one that I was most excited about filming. And given that, I felt like it was a great place to put a cameo like that.”

Schreier also said that Ansel’s cameo is a slow reveal, one that John Green says really paid off:

“Jake made a great shot. I watched the movie in Brazil with an audience, and yeah, there was a significant reaction.”

We posted when Elgort had visited the set back in December, but we didn’t realize that he got his very own cameo!

Jaz Sinclair described the trio as bro-y but adorable:

“It was really funny to watch him and Nat and John Green reunite, and that dynamic which was very different than the ‘Paper Towns’ dynamic. They were a little bit more bro-y than we were.”
