Jon Favreau is set to direct and production is being fast-tracked. Favreau tweeted the news earlier today.

Favreau recently directed Disney’s live-action The Jungle Book which featured CGI animals. The special effects were breath taking in The Jungle Book and I cannot wait to see how The Lion King turns out. The re-imagining of The Lion King will also feature songs from the 1994 animated classic.

The Lion King is one of the highest grossing animated movies of all time making $968.8 million globally. It won Academy Awards, Grammys, and became a Broadway sensation in 1997.

Although the project is being fast-tracked, there isn’t any information yet on when the movie will be out. Regardless, this is one more live-action Disney remake to look forward to.
