Fox has hired Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) to direct their X-Men spinoff, The New Mutants. Boone will co-write the screenplay with Knate Gwaltney (Kidnap) while Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner are set to produce.
The New Mutants was created by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod in 1982. At the time, the team consisted of Cannonball, Sunspot, Wolfbane, Karma, Dani Moonstar, and Professor X. At this time it is unknown what mutants will be included in the spinoff.
Here’s what Kinberg had to say on Boone’s appointment as director:
“We’re so excited to explore this new part of the X-Men universe, and so excited to do it with Josh, who is uniquely suited to tell this story about young characters.”
