The cast of The Mortal Instruments is one step closer to being complete! Kevin Durand and wrestler Robert Maillet have been cast as Pangborn and Blackwell in the upcoming film. See the report from Next Movie below.
The cast of Screen Gems’ adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” is coming together at a snail’s pace, but, with less than six weeks until production begins, the news is slowly but surely trickling down. While we’re still on edge to find out who (seriously, who?!) will portray Simon and Alec, two new names have now joined the fold.
Kevin Durand (“Real Steel,” “Lost”) and Robert Maillet (“Sherlock Holmes,” “Immortals”) — both equal parts muscle and menace — are now locked in to portray the characters Emil Pangborn and Samuel Blackwell, a pair of nefarious cronies from Valentine Morgenstern’s Circle, reports Variety.
Yep, we can totally see it. Between Durand’s no holds barred penchant for violence in his prior roles and Maillet’s gift for grimacing, it’s a nice fit for these secondary roles.
Durand and Maillet join Lily Collins (the central Clary Fray), Jamie Campbell Bower (Jace Wayland) and the recently-added Jemima West (Isabelle Lightwood) for the cast.
Durand is currently filming “Devil’s Knot” with Reese Witherspoon, Stephen Moyer and Colin Firth, and production on “The Mortal Instruments” is expected to begin on Aug. 15. “The Mortal Instruments” will then hit theaters on Aug. 23, 2013.
