It’s been rumored for days, but Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins has finally confirmed that Kristen Wiig is set to play the villainess Cheetah in DC’s sequel.
Jenkins confirmed that the actress/comedian, who has recently transitioned into some more serious roles, will take on the character via Twitter, calling Wiig “one of my favorites.”
So excited to confirm the most thrilling news. Yes! It’s true! So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family. Can't wait to finally work with one of my favorites. And SO excited by what we have planned. #Cheetah!!! @GalGadot pic.twitter.com/Gn0jICiIAH

Cheetah is Wonder Woman’s biggest foe in the comic canon. There are four incarnations in the comics, all of which are a woman who appear normal on most occasions, but morphs into a vicious cheetah-woman at will. The most likely candidate for the film seems to be Dr. Barbara Ann Minerva, an archaeologist from an aristocratic family. Minerva is usually obsessed with the legend of Themyscira and Diana’s powers.
The plot details beyond the villain have not been revealed, but according to Heroic Hollywood, rumors say the story will follow Diana through troubles in the Cold War era. Naturally, Gal Gadot will return as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince once more with Patty Jenkins in the director’s chair after their massive success on the first film.
Wonder Woman 2 is due out on November 1, 2019. Filming is set to begin in late May.
