Leigh Bardugo’s SIEGE AND STORM Blog Tour Stop #5

On Leigh Bardugo’s fifth stop in her blog tour, she visits the crazy girls at Cuddlebuggery, and it makes for a somewhat weird, somewhat awkward, and very humorous conversation.  And yes, shenanigans definitely ensue as they talk about fanfics, including a slashy Shadow and Bone one.  However, they eventually get to the part of the conversation that actually talks about Siege and Storm, and I have that below:

Stephanie Sinclair
So, did you encounter many difficulties this time around with writing book two?

Leigh Bardugo
Are we transitioning to serious talk?
Because I’m still reeling from the Twilight/Shadow and Bone mashup.

Kat Kennedy
*Bashes head against keyboard*

Stephanie Sinclair
We are attempting to be professional.
For once.

Leigh Bardugo
Writing book 2 was INTENSE.

Kat Kennedy
Intense good or intense bad or a feeling somewhere in between?
I’ve heard a lot of authors say Book 2 is harder than book 1.

Leigh Bardugo
It was easily the toughest of the books to write. Book 3 was the most emotional, but I had a lot more faith in my process by then.

Kat Kennedy
This is us being series.
serious*. Fuck.

Leigh Bardugosiriusly
*Snort*

Stephanie Sinclair
Siriusly?

Kat Kennedy
Shut up!

Leigh Bardugo
Fir sirius.

Kat Kennedy
Now I have to leave these typos in!

Leigh Bardugo
Ahahahahaha.

Kat Kennedy
Laughing so hard right now.
goddamn1.

Leigh Bardugo
One what??

Stephanie Sinclair
And the “1″.

Kat Kennedy
Nooooooo.
You guys are killing me. KILLING ME.

Leigh Bardugo
I feel like Kat may need a hug.

Stephanie Sinclair
*No editing will be done to this interview.*

Kat Kennedy
Okay, so you’re saying Book III is already done?
So if, say, some enterprising individuals were to break into your house Mission Impossible style, they could steal it?

Stephanie Sinclair
And that we can haz it noaw?

Leigh Bardugo
AHEM. The first draft is done and turned in. Trust me, you don’t want it in its current state.

Kat Kennedy
Oh FINE!

Leigh Bardugo
Also, I have trained hellhounds on duty.

Stephanie Sinclair
And mind bullets.

Leigh Bardugo
Hee! Indeed.

Kat Kennedy
I wouldn’t expect any less from you, Leigh.
Okay, we have one more question for you, Leigh, and then we shall release you from our fungeon.

Leigh Bardugo
Fungeon! Wordplay!

Stephanie Sinclair
Well, we thought Siege and Storm was brilliant, better than the first. How has the early reviewer reaction to Siege and Storm been for you?
Did you expect the the loveliest?
lovefest*

Kat Kennedy
Ha! Loveliest Steph? What the hell does that mean?
Oh! Wait, was that a typo?

Stephanie Sinclair
GAH! Damn YOU!

Kat Kennedy
Guess we’ll have to leave it in now.
Sorry, Leigh, proceed.

Stephanie Sinclair
I hate you so much right now.

Leigh Bardugo
I’d love to meet an author who “expects” a lovefest. (Even the least lovely lovefest.) I don’t know about everyone else, but I spend a lot of time wallowing in self doubt.
Great for the skin, you know.

Stephanie Sinclair
I can only image the pressure.

Leigh Bardugo
I’m proud of Siege and I actually do think it’s better than Shadow and Bone, but it wasn’t any less scary to put it out in the world.

Kat Kennedy
I feel like throwing you a lovefest.

Leigh Bardugo
With cookies? And a pinata?

Kat Kennedy
YES.

Stephanie Sinclair
And cake.

Leigh Bardugo
I LOVE pinatas. Seriously.
I wish they were at all parties.

Kat Kennedy
It’s not a party unless there’s a pinata. Seriously.

Stephanie Sinclair
It’s going to be at Darkling and Mal’s wedding.

Leigh Bardugo
Maybe you could work one into the sequel.

Kat Kennedy
Well, thank you so much for coming and talking with us today, Leigh.

Leigh Bardugo
Guys, I can truly say this was one of the most hilarious and disturbing moments of my life.

Stephanie Sinclair
Success!

Kat Kennedy
I think that’s a win, Steph.
If we don’t seriously disturb our guests at least once, then we feel like we’ve failed them.

(via fifth blog tour stop: Cuddlebuggery.  Go there to read Steph and Kat’s very non-canon fanfic excerpts and enter to win a paperback copy of Shadow and Bone and a Hardcover copy of the upcoming Siege and Storm!)
