THE SANDCASTLE EMPIRE is on it’s way to the big screen before publication, in part thanks to Leonardo DiCaprio!
Imagine you’re a debut Young Adult author. Getting your book published in pretty amazing in itself, right? Now imagine the film rights for the book sell before it’s even published. Oh, and an international superstar has signed on as a producer. That’s exactly what’s happening for Kayla Olson and her debut novel, The Sandcastle Empire!
Leonardo Dicaprio, in the midst of an astounding awards season, will be a producer on the Paramount film. The Sandcastle Empire is said to be heavily focused on environmental disasters and climate change, which are major points of advocacy for DiCaprio.

The book is set in 2049 when the Earth is at a breaking point due to climate change, coastal flooding and overpopulation. A radical faction known as the Wolfpack overthrows the government and takes control.
The story centers on a young woman named Eden who escapes a Wolfpack labor camp, joining three other girls fleeing to an island. During her journey, she will find clues as to what happened to her missing father and find out that she is the key to bringing down the Wolfpack.
There’s no word yet as to when The Sandcastle Empire novel will be published, but author Kayla Olson thanked friends and social media users for their support after the movie news broke.
