THE KINGKILLER CHRONICLE will come to the screen with the help of Lin-Manuel Miranda!
Broadway star and music icon Lin-Manuel Miranda has just singed on for a new project of epic proportions based on a major fantasy series.
He’ll be both producing and creating music for the movie and television adaptations of Patrick Rothfuss‘ The Kingkiller Chronicle through Lionsgate media. The popular fantasy series follows the story of a wizard named Kvothe, also a fabled singer and actor, who has traveled far and wide through many an adventure. In the books, Kvothe is slowly revealing his saga to a scribe, who learns the details alongside the audience.
Given that Kvothe is a singer and composer, the adaptations will probably feature lots of original music.
Lionsgate is simultaneously developing a movie, a television series, and a video game based on the books. The movie is currently in the scripting stage with writer Lindsey Beer. The television show will develop new characters within the world. Miranda will be working closely with executive producer and author Patrick Rothfuss on those characters as well as the music, according to Variety.
In a statement, Miranda talked about his excitement:
“Pat Rothfuss’ ‘Kingkiller’ books are among the most read and re-read in our home. It’s a world you want to spend lifetimes in, as his many fans will attest. Pat also writes about the act of making music more beautifully than any novelist I’ve ever read. I can’t wait to play a part in bringing this world to life onscreen.”
There’s no word yet on when the movie or TV show will be out, but we’ll let you know when it’s announced!
