A popular franchise may live on with THE HUNGER GAMES prequels!
The Hunger Games franchise put Lionsgate of the major studio map and if a talk from studio Vice Chairman Michael Burns at the UBS Global Media and Communications Conference is any indication, the studio doesn’t plan to let go of that fire anytime soon. That right: Those rumored The Hunger Games prequels are under some serious consideration!
After saying that the franchise would “live on and on” a la Harry Potter, Burns was quoted saying that prequels will be the next step, which the company believes will solve some issues for fans who weren’t as invested in the final two movies, despite their massive success.
“The one thing that kids say they missed (from the early Hunger Games films) was there was no arenas. If we went backwards there obviously would be arenas.”
Prompted by some fan backlash, Lionsgate released an additional statement from Burns that clarifies the studio’s position on the violence of the “arena stories” and the very real possibility that it will clash with the original story’s message.
“Whatever extensions of ‘The Hunger Games’ brand we pursue, the intent is not to glorify violence by arbitrarily telling arena stories, but to continue Suzanne Collins’s exploration of the concepts of just war theory.”
Quotes aside, Lionsgate has not yet officially announced any The Hunger Games prequels, nor have they given details on the possible prequel stories.
