Lois Lowry Sequel to “The Giver”

While we all wait for “Reached” to come out (5 more weeks!) I think it’s worthwhile to take a look at a book that paved the path for many of our beloved series. Lois Lowry wrote a book titled “The Giver” in 1993.. so just about 20 years ago! A lot of you may have had to read this book in school so if you overlooked it, I would urge you to give it another chance!

“Jonas’s world is perfect. Everything is under control. There is no war or fear
of pain. There are no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the community.
When Jonas turns 12 he is singled out to receive special training from The
Giver. The Giver alone holds the memories of the true pain and pleasure of life.
Now, it is time for Jonas to receive the truth. There is no turning back.
Amazon.com, Book Cover’s Description of “The Giver”

There have been companion novels to “The Giver,” but Lois Lowry’s newest book, “Son,” is a direct sequel! I am so excited about this, seeing as it’s been about 15 years since I first read “The Giver”! I would highly recommend that fans of Condie’s “Matched” sequel take a look into this book, the sequel, and their companion novels.
