After a six-movie franchise, there’s more to come from Middle Earth!
We’ve already seen J.R.R. Tolkien‘s Lord of the Rings and its prequel, The Hobbit, transformed into massive motion picture franchises at the hands of Warner Bros. Pictures and director Peter Jackson, now it looks like the studio is looking to re-imagine Middle Earth for the small screen.
Variety reports that Warner Bros. and the Tolkien estate have been shopping the project to a number of potential networks and that Amazon is the current frontrunner, with CEO Jeff Bezos (aka the richest man in the world) personally involved in negotiations.
Bezos is reportedly a huge fan of high fantasy and sci-fi. Amazon Studios is also looking to move away from niche original series and provide more blockbuster content that will gain a larger international audience, and this series would certainly have the potential to do that for them if done well.
According to the report, talks are still in the very early stages and no deal has been struck yet. However, it looks like we’ll be getting more Lord of the Rings from some studio in our future.
