Actress Maisie Richardson-Sellers is the latest casting confirmation out of JJ Abrams STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

The rumor has been swirling for almost a year, but now it’s official: Maisie Sellers-Richardson (THE ORIGINALS) will be part of STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS!

Maisie revealed her participation in a recent interview with Refinery 29, but remained tight-lipped on the specifics of her role. All that’s known is that the British actress beat out thousands of others for her part.

Despite an extensive background in theater and TV work on THE ORIGINALS, Maisie is relatively unknown in the film world. STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS constitutes her first major film experience.

The actress said:

I always thought I’d be acting on the stage in London. I never even considered this whole other world. When Star Wars happened, that’s when the horizon really expanded, and I thought for the first time that maybe this could be an international career.

She also talked about her connection to the universe:

I grew up watching them and I’ve always been fascinated about how they use the epic nature of the story — but also make it really personal. It has tender relationships, and it’s funny and quirky. I feel it’s really well-rounded and that’s why it’s so popular; it’s so accessible for so many generations and backgrounds. Even though it’s such a surreal story, it feels very true. All the relationships are very true. It breaks down the age old story of good versus evil in a very accessible manner.
