The rumor mill heated up extremely quickly in several corners of the web yesterday with a new, exciting story that fans have been hoping to see for ages!
Though the two companies are trying to keep things quiet, it looks like Marvel and Sony are finally in negotiations to get Spider-Man back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
Here’s the quote from Hitfix:
While I can’t get the confirmations I need to verify the story, I’m hearing that there are some very cool “Spider-Man” plans being discussed that would help Sony refocus their enormously important franchise while also opening up some connections in the onscreen Marvel movie universe that would blow fandom’s minds.
Since beginning it’s own very successful cinematic franchise via Disney, Marvel has tried to either buy back the rights to major characters. Sony seems to be working with Marvel toward a solution after many years, but Fox– who owns X-MEN and THE FANTASTIC FOUR has been more reluctant as they’ve been much more successful with their own franchises. In a somewhat bitter response, Marvel is killing off THE FANTASTIC FOUR comics and is reportedly planning on doing the same for DEADPOOL, a character for whom a Fox Studios movie was just announced.
