The movie adaptation of Jesse Andrews’ YA debut novel ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL didn’t just premiere at Sundance, it dominated the film festival. With rave reviews, the film won both the Audience Award and the Grand Jury Prize in the US films category. Fox Searchlight bought the distribution rights to the film for a whopping $12 million, the largest distribution sale in the history of the event.
Now, this indie in the spotlight finally has a theater release date: July 1, 2015!
Jesse Andrews wrote the screenplay shortly after the book. The film stars Thomas Mann (BEAUTIFUL CREATURES), Olivia Cooke (BATES MOTEL), Nick Offerman (PARKS AND RECREATION), Molly Shannon (SNL) and newcomer RJ Cyler.
At Sundance 2014, WHIPLASH also won the Audience Award and Grand Jury Prize. This year, it was nominated for 5 Academy Awards. Let’s see if the same will happen for this film in 2016!
