Meet the GAME OF THRONES Sand Snakes

The Sand Snakes have arrived

Like Jon’s surname marks him as a bastard (a person born out of wedlock), so does the surname “Sand” as Prince Oberyn Martell’s bastard daughters are so called.  But the daughters, Tyene, Obara, and Nym, now use it to mark themselves proudly as vicious and powerful and basically not to be messed with.  They are called the Sand Snakes for good reason, as not only are they skilled warriors, it is a nod to their father’s own nickname, the Red Viper.

We showed you pictures of the three daughters already.  Now you can watch as they explain their characters.

Those familiar with the books knows there are actually more than three Sand Snakes, however, it looks like they’re focusing on the three eldest daughters of Oberyn Martell.   No word on if the others are even going to appear at all in the series.

  • Obara is the eldest and played by Keisha Castle-Hughes (The Walking Dead).  Obara’s weapon of choice is a spear.
  • Nymeria, or Nym, is the second eldest and played by Jessica Henwick (Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens).  Nym’s weapon of choice is the whip.
  • Tyene is the youngest of the three and played by Rosabell Laurenti Sellers.  Tyene’s weapon of choice are her double daggers.

Can’t wait to see what these three unbowed, unbent, and unbroken women will show us this fifth season of Game of Thrones!

The Sand Snakes seek revenge

They’ll be making their first appearance in the season premiere, and won’t show up again until the fourth episode.  According to IMDb, they’ll be showing up in six out of the ten episodes for season five.

Game of Thrones season premiere “The Wars to Come,” airs on Sunday, April 12th.

Cersei and Jaime adjust to a world without Tywin. Varys reveals a conspiracy to Tyrion. Dany faces a new threat to her rule. Jon is caught between two kings. (Written by David Benioff & D. B. Weiss; directed by Michael Slovis.)
