MARY POPPINS allegedly adds award-winning phenom Meryl Streep to the mix!
Meryl Streep proved her singing and dancing prowess in films like Mamma Mia and Into The Woods and now, it seems she’ll be at it again!
The heralded actress had reportedly joined the cast of Disney’s new Mary Poppins movie starring Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Reports indicate that she’ll be playing Mary’s cousin, Topsy Tartlet.
This will be Meryl Streep’s third time working alongside Emily Blunt, who will portray Mary Poppins. The two were previously co-stars in The Devil Wears Prada and Into The Woods. Director Rob Marshall also helmed Into The Woods for Disney.
The new Mary Poppins will be a sequel to the 1964 film starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. It will follow adult Jane and Michael Foster, as well as Michael’s three children, during the depression era. After a tragic event leaves them all in a tough spot, determined nanny Mary Poppins returns with her lamplighter friend, Jack (Lin-Manuel Miranda.)
The original movie was based on a 1934 novel by P.L. Travers. It was the first in an eight-book series, so there’s still plenty more to say about Mary!
The new Mary Poppins film has not announced a release date quite yet.
