Michelle Williams Joins Tom Hardy In VENOM Movie

VENOM finds its leading lady in Oscar nominated actress!

Given her status as an indie film star and awards season darling, Michelle Williams isn’t the first person you’d expect to play a role in a comic book adaptation. But that’s exactly what she’ll be doing in upcoming months!

Williams signed on for the female lead in Venom, which stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, the man who is taken over by an symbiotic alien being that gives him wild new powers including super strength, shape-shifting, and camouflage. According to Variety, she’ll play a yet-to-be-named district attorney who is also the story’s love interest.

The film also features Riz Ahmed in a mystery role. It will be directed by Zombieland helmer Ruben Fleischer and stand apart from the existing Spider-Man universe.

The character was originally conceived as a villain and was touted as such in Spider-Man 3, in which he was portrayed by Topher Grace, but in more recent comic renditions, he’s been more of an antihero with a darkly comedic flair.

Venom is due in theaters on October 5, 2018.
