Misha Collins Deemed a “Hero of Fandom” at SDCC

SUPERNATURAL star Misha Collins participated in a panel highlighting his work off-screen.

A “Heroes of Fandom” panel was hosted by IGN Saturday at SDCC. The guests included Misha Collins, Milana Vayntrub (Marvel Rising), Yetide Badaki (American Gods), and Olan Rogers (Final Space). The official description of the panel is as follows:

To celebrate the unique bond between artist and audience, IGN is bringing together the stars and content creators who have bridged the gap between fame and fandom, using their platform to reach their followers in groundbreaking and sometimes world-changing ways. Panelists will discuss the pros and cons of celebrity in the digital age, the projects that make them geek out, and the various ways they’ve joined forces with their fans to help make a difference, proving just how powerful fandom can be when people work together to celebrate something they love.

Collins is well-known for his work outside of Supernatural. He is the founder of  Random Acts, a non-profit that “inspires many amazing things around the world every day — from small acts of kindness, such as inspiring someone to buy a stranger a cup of coffee, to much bigger acts of kindness like building a school in…Nicaragua.” Collins also hosted GISHWHES (a giant, weird scavenger hunt for fans) since 2011. In 2018, he revamped the “hunt” and shorted the name to GISH. The week full of shenanigans always benefits a charity. This year’s choice is Lucky Dog Animal Rescue, which rescues dogs and cats from kill shelters.

A couple of lucky fans made it to the “Heroes of Fandom” panel and were kind enough to share their experiences on Twitter:

Misha Collins plays an angel in the world of Supernatural, but I am convinced he is also one in our world.
