Tribal ancestors sing and voyage across the seas in new MOANA clip!

A stunning backstory and a new song from Moana are greeting Disney fans in a new sneak peek.

Featuring the song “We Know The Way” sung by Opetaia Foa‘i and Lin-Manuel Miranda, the clip tells some of the story of Moana’s ancestors as the voyage through the ocean and discover new lands.

Everyone looks thrilled and proud as they race across the sea and develop the new land, but knowing that her culture is firmly landlocked by the time Moana comes around, we have a feeling there’s a serious downside to this journey.

The young tribesman in the video is also wearing the same necklace that Moana’s father, Chief Tui, wears– meaning the character is likely either her direct ancestor or her actual father.

Moana sails into theaters on November 23, 2016.

Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast South Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped — and no one today knows why. From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes ‘Moana,’ a sweeping, CG-animated adventure about a spirited teenager who sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and fulfill her ancestors’ unfinished quest. During her journey, she meets the once-mighty demi-god Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), and together, they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous fiery creatures and impossible odds.
