Firefly and Castle star Nathan Fillion will be joining the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 cast, and we couldn’t be happier!
It was revealed recently that Firefly captain and Castle star Nathan Fillion, who also happens to be a fan favorite from one project or another, will be joining the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy 2! And although he had a part in the first Guardians film, his role this time around might be more significant. How much more, we don’t know.
According to ComicBook.com, he’ll be playing the character Simon Williams, aka Wonder Man.
In the Marvel Comics Universe, Simon Williams is a former members of the Masters of Evil, and brother of villain the Grim Reaper, who reformed and joined the Avengers. Williams eventually retired from the Avengers to pursue an acting career. He was later dragged back into the Avengers’ active roster, despite becoming a pacifist, as a member of the Avengers Unity Division. He paid the ultimate price while defending the Earth from the Apocalypse Twins.
Yes, it definitely seems to be a meatier part than that of Monstrous Inmate in the Guardians of the Galaxy (his character a CGI’d in and his voice was used, though it seemed to have been altered). However, considering we don’t know exactly when Guardians of the Galaxy 2 takes place, it’s hard to say how Simon will exactly be worked into the movie.
There has been some blurry photos on set of several movie posters with Fillion’s face on it, as Simon Williams the actor and his various roles, including one of his character playing Tony Star in a biopic about the Iron-Man.
As much as we’d like him to don yet another superhero/antihero outfit, we might just end up seeing him as Simon Williams, the actor. Another role he’s very familiar with. Either way, we can’t wait to actually see him this time in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2. Director James Gunn needs to make this worth it and give us some good interaction between Captain Tightpants and the Star Lord.
Aside from his roles as Malcolm Reynolds in Firefly and Richard Castle in ABC’s Castle as well as his decent list of film and television credits, Nathan Fillion has had his hand in various projects, from the web-based Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog to voicing the tough sergeants in the Halo video games.
