The Netflix adaptation of Kirsten Smith‘s YA novel Trinkets is coming back for a farewell bow.
Trinkets follows Moe, Elodie, and Tabitha, three very different teen girls with the same treacherous habit: They’re serial shoplifters. The three form an unlikely friendship in the Shoplifters Anonymous meetings, but fuel each other’s fire in the process. Dealing with their own personal issues, the girls begin a shoplifting competition of sorts to see who can outdo the others.
The series gained a following, but it’s only based off of one book and it seems Netflix isn’t willing to embellish much beyond it. The streaming giant dropped a Season 2 announcement that promises the show’s return in 2020. However, it also says that this will be the show’s final season.
At the very least, there’s some comfort in knowing loose ends will be wrapped up.
Author Kirsten Smith is also a Hollywood screenwriter with such credits as Legally Blonde and 10 Things I Hate About You, so it’s no surprise that she worked as a screenwriter on her own adaptation. No word yet if she’ll be back for Season 2.
Trinkets Season 1 is currently available on Netflix.
