Three new photos were released for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2, and a Smallville alum has joined the cast.
Empire magazine released three new photos from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, with one of them of veteran actor Kurt Russell revealed as Ego the Living Planet in human form. It was disclosed in earlier news that Ego is Peter Quill’s father, which is unique to the feature film, since Peter’s father in the comics is actually Emporer J’son.
The next image reinforces the awkward relationship between Yondu (Michael Rooker) and Rocket the Raccoon (Bradley Cooper). The trailers and TV spots show them working together, sort of, and even with Baby Groot riding on the shoulder of Yondu as if they’re a team. But we can probably be safe in assuming that they aren’t really what you would consider as “besties.”
In the third image, we see the team looking up at something that might be of some concern. What we immediately find interesting is that Nebula (Karen Gillan) is with them, however, she is handcuffed. Considering her left hand is missing, we’re not sure how secure those cuffs are. The other interesting thing is the actions of Baby Groot in the background. Don’t think we didn’t notice him?!
In related news, it’s been revealed that Rocky and Rambo star Sylvester Stallone and Smallville star Michael Rosenbaum have roles in the sequel. What we don’t know is the exact roles they’ll be playing. Here’s what James Gunn had to say about it, which aired on The Adam Corolla Show:
“We do have a couple of characters who are very important to the Marvel Universe who are going to make their debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which people don’t know about. Sylvester Stallone plays one of these characters. My friend Michael Rosenbaum also has a pretty decent role in the movie as well, and it sort of works in tandem with Sly’s character.”
Even though it’s nice to know what all the actors are playing, I certainly don’t mind keeping some things under wraps until the actual viewing of the movie.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5, 2017.
