PETE’S DRAGON preview shows Elliot the dragon being rescued!

The original version of Pete’s Dragon was released in 1977, with an entirely animated dragon digitally inserted pete's dragonbeside the actors. Nearly 40 years later, Disney is remaking the moving using a mix of CGI and live-action, creating an incredibly realistic dragon.

With these technological upgrades, feedback so far has been intensely positive. Although only 13 reviews have been posted at this point, it’s rated at 85% – 37% higher than the earlier rendition!

Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford)
, a woodcarver, delights local children with stories of a mysterious dragon that lives deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. His daughter Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard) believes these are just tall tales, until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley). Pete is a 10-year-old orphan who says he lives in the woods with a giant, friendly dragon. With help from a young girl named Natalie (Oona Laurence), Grace sets out to investigate if this fantastic claim can be true.

In the newest Pete’s Dragon clip, Natalie and Pete are attempting to free Elliot, the friendly dragon. Elliot sits tied to the back of a trailer, which Natalie is attempting to drive (without much luck). Before the pair can do too much damage to themselves or the car, Mr. Meacham comes to aid in their rescue efforts. He throws the big rig into drive, busts through the wall, and declares the soon-to-be-famous, “I thought it was in reverse!”

Pete’s Dragon will open in theaters August 12, 2016.
