Casting news broke from both JUSTICE LEAGUE and AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR today, announcing roles for Kiersey Clemons and Danai Gurira, respectively.
Justice League and Avengers: Infinity War are two highly anticipated films, and their casts are scotch-full of big names. The newest names include Kiersey Clemons and Danai Gurira. Kiersey Clemons, best known for 2015’s Dope, will debut her role as Iris West in the DC Extended Universe’s Justice League this fall. Clemons explains,
This November, I’m making a cameo in ‘Justice League’ as Iris West and it’s the first time that you get to meet her before we get to see her in ‘The Flash’ with Ezra Miller. It was my first time doing something so extravagant like that. We filmed in London and that’s one of my favorite places.
In the comics, Iris West is the love interest for Barry Allen (to be played by Ezra Miller), first as his girlfriend and later as his wife. She is also the aunt of Wally West, who goes on to take up the Flash mantle. Justice League, coming to theaters on November 10, 2017, will be the first Iris West sighting; we can look forward to seeing Clemons again in the solo Flash film, set for 2020.
Meanwhile, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Danai Gurira of The Walking Dead fame is set to appear in Infinity War as Okoye. Okoye is a member of the Dora Milaje, the elite personal female bodyguards of King T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman). Okoye will first appear in Black Panther; she can be seen at T’Challa’s side in the recently released trailer. Black Panther will come out on February 16, 2018, and Infinity War will hit theaters on May 4, 2018.
