Taika Waititi is in the negotiations part of signing on to direct Marvel’s Asgardian god.
New Zealand actor/director Taika Waititi (also known as Taika Cohen) will be taking on the challenge of directing Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok. This will be the third (and most likely final) film of the Thor franchise.
Waititi has been acting and directing (mostly New Zealand based shows and shorts) since the early aughts. He played opposite Ryan Reynolds in the underwhelming DC Entertainment movie Green Lantern, but found much success as a director. He was nominated for an Oscar for Best Live Action short with Two Cars, One Night, and won an AFI award for Best International Feature Film in Boy.
Actors Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, and Jaimie Alexander will be reprising their roles as Thor, Loki, and Lady Sif, respectively. I am actually looking forward to seeing these three back on the screen together. They have all done pretty well for themselves outside of the Marvel films, but they work well together and it shows on screen.
Christopher Yost, who co-wrote the screenplay for Thor: The Dark World, and Craig Kyle, co-producer of Thor and executive producer of Thor: The Dark World, wrote the screenplay for Thor: Ragnarok. Marvel president Kevin Feige is signed on as producer.
Thor: Ragnarok is set to hit theaters November 3, 2017.
