Oscar Isaac Talks Improv On the Set of STAR WARS: EPISODE IX

STAR WARS star Oscar Isaac talks about fan expectations and actor improvisations in the widely-anticipated Episode IX.

In an interview with IndieWire, our very own Poe Dameron revealed some fun facts about his take on Star Wars fan expectations around Episode IX. He also divulged some interesting info regarding the set of the upcoming film, and J.J. Abrams’ return.

According to Isaac, there has been some natural improv on set, paving the way for a “looser” film:

It does feel like a relief to get on set and feel like, ‘Oh, we can try things.’ It’s a testament to J.J. coming back and feeling confident. There’s less pressure for it to be right. We just want to make a good movie and have a really good time while doing it.

He also explained that, as an actor, he has managed to avoid much of the fan opinions from the widely-debated The Last Jedi.

You make a movie and people are supposed to like, or not like it, or not care about it. Those are the only three options. So it’s not shocking that one of those things happened.

Isaac is subject to plenty of feedback, though, from family members. He revealed that his uncle and cousin are huge Star Wars fans with “great ideas,” and teased that he smuggles them secrets. We can’t say we’re not jealous!

Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20, 2019.
