As most film directors will tell you, there are typically scenes that will be removed from the final version of a film, whether it be for time or for visual adherence or any other reason. In this particular case, it appeared to be for the vision.
In a recent interview, Donald Sutherland (who plays President Snow) revealed that there was a scene between his character and Josh Hutcherson’s Peeta, that took place during Peeta’s time at the Capitol.
Because Mockingjay is primarily set in Katniss’s perspective, the final decision to cut the scene came from it not being able to fit within that perspective.
“It just didn’t fit with their paradigm. …It wasn’t evident when we wrote it, it was a lovely scene. Just lovely,” he [Sutherland] said. “At the end of it…Peeta said ‘so you’re asking me to say all these things.’ And [President Snow] said, ‘you have everything right except one detail. I’m not asking.’”
With this scene being left out, it makes you wonder what other scenes were cut. I, for one, cannot wait to find out.
Francis Lawrence revealed that there will be several minutes of deleted scenes on the Mockingjay Part 1 DVD/Blu-Ray release, so I guess we will have our answer once we get closer to the 2015 release date.
What do you think about the scene between Peeta and Snow being deleted? Do you agree that it would have taken away from the vision for the film?
Mockingjay Part 1 is in theaters now!
