Peter Jackson Casts Robbie Sheehan, Ronan Raftery For MORTAL ENGINES

Two actors sign on for Peter Jackson’s latest epic!

Peter Jackson‘s movie adaptation of Philip Reeves‘ dystopian steampunk YA novel Mortal Engines has its first cast members!

According to Variety, Robbie Sheehan of Misfits and The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones fame will star as Tom Natsworthy, who lives in a world where whole municipalities travel around the globe on mechanized wheels and gears. These “Traction Cities” literally battle and consume each other in the fight of Earth’s last resources. Tom’s life is changed when he meets an Outlands teen who introduces him to the muddy civilization left in the tracks of such grand cities.

Ronan Raftery, who had a minor role as Langdon Shaw in Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, also joins the cast in an unknown supporting role.

Production on Mortal Engines, Jackson’s first major post-Hobbit film, is slated to begin in New Zealand this spring. The film has a tentative release date of December 14, 2018.

The book series is four books long and it’s unclear at this point whether Jackson is adapting the first book with hopes to adapt the others at a later date, combining the stories into one, or simply using the books as a guide for a more original take.
