Jennifer Morrison exited ONCE UPON A TIME at the end of Season 6, but she will appear in the second episode of Season 7, entitled “A Pirate’s Life.”
The plot for Jennifer Morrison‘s final episode is a tightly kept secret; however, Once Upon a Time executive producer Edward Kitsis assures us that it is not simply a flashback.
What we’re not doing is a flashback story where we’re seeing stuff prior to, or during, the previous six seasons. We’re moving forward past the end of Season 6, seeing what happened with Emma and Hook, and how it relates to the events in Hyperion Heights. It’s an emotional curtain call.
The two promotional photos from the episode make that clear. One shows Morrison’s character Emma hugging Adult Henry played by Andrew J. West; both photos appear to be in a forest, although it’s not clear if it’s the Enchanted Forest or not. No one (including Emma’s love interest Hook, played by Colin O’Donoghue) appears to be particularly happy in either photograph. Also, Emma is not wearing a red leather jacket, which either indicates that time has passed or that she’s had a shift in fashion sense.
Morrison’s final episode has been a subject of debate since it was first announced that she was leaving the show back in May. Fans wondered how the series could justify losing its main character while keeping her love interest, especially after the pair were married near the end of Season 6. Executive producer Adam Horowitz sounds optimistic about the transition, saying,
We get to find out what has happened with Emma and Hook since our happy ending we showed last year. We will be getting closure on her story in what we feel is a satisfying way.
Once Upon a Time begins its seventh season on October 6th on ABC.
