Find out more about Potions Master and Slytherin Horace Slughorn in the short story released by Pottermore Presents!
Three ebooks were released on Tuesday, which included new material from not only the Pottermore staff, but by J.K. Rowling herself.
Some of the material is already is previously written material. And none of it focuses on the trio of Harry, Ron, and Hermione. The idea is to expand the Harry Potter universe through other characters. This makes sense since there are so many characters that we can explore.
One of the new stories involves the history of Slytherin and Potions Master Horace Slughorn. Rowling wrote the story and she details Horace’s family history and being raised within a pure-blood family. We get to see how “while […] never militant in their pure-blood beliefs, […] encouraged a quiet belief in the family’s innate superiority,” Rowling stated.
She also delves into his relationship with Tom Marvolo Riddle, and the guilt he felt when he unknowingly aided in making Voldemort’s return possible.
J.K. does explain, though, how Horace Slughorn found redemption during the Battle of Hogwarts.
“Slughorn’s behaviour during the most dangerous night of his life reveals the worth of the man.”
Slughorn’s story can be read in Short Stories from Hogwarts of Power, Politics and Pesky Poltergeists.
Another original and new story by Rowling can be found in Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies, which gives us more information about Minerva McGonagall.
