We rank the YA Book-to-Movie Adaptations of 2018

1) THE HATE U GIVE

Based on The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

Our thoughts:

  • I haven’t yet read The Hate U Give but the movie was FANTASTIC. I think every person in America needs to see this film! – Miranda @HNewsSource
  • This movie was phenomenal. I’m pretty sure I started crying about 10 minutes in and basically didn’t stop until the end. Amandla Stenberg was glorious in this movie. The film didn’t shy away from hard truths and was so much better because of this honesty. Truly a fantastic movie. – Molly, The Fandom
  • The movie stuck very closely to Angie Thomas’ heart-wrenching story, which it adapted with strength and honesty. The cast was incredible, the message is powerful, the tension was palpable, and the scenes added in only helped flesh out their world. The Hate U Give is more than entertaining– It’s important. – Kait, The Fandom
  • What a phenomenal story. I adored this book, and I certainly also adored this movie. All of the major plot points were hit head-on. There was some additions/changes that may have been even better than in the book. All the scenes from the book were just as heartbreaking, and that addition at the end was heart-stopping. I can still feel the nerves I felt watching that moment of pain and brilliant storytelling. – Ellie, @ Reader Gonna Read
  • This book was amazing, and this movie was too. I saw an advanced screening and you could see and hear the impact that it was having on everyone in the theater. It’s such an important story, and I’m so glad it made it to the silver screen. – Flo, Book Nerds Across America @booknerdsblog
